Getting your content strategy right for your business can sometimes feel a little bit like a wacky races, but it really doesn’t have to. Getting your strategy right is one of those things that once you get clarity on it, it’s a little like plug and play.
Don’t skip the first step
So many business owners gloss over the key fundamental steps when it comes to planning strategy and that is… goals!
HUGE MISTAKE!
Goals are really fundamental step number 1 when it comes to producing effective content for your business.
Without knowing what you are trying to achieve (and I mean both the pedestal dreams and the next month ones) of course you’re going to be all over the place!
A good content strategy is like a personal shopper. It knows exactly where you need to be, what you need to create and who you need to be targeting. And that doesn’t come from some kind of Harry Potter wizardry… It comes from taking the time to get clear on paper and then piecing that puzzle together.
So if you’re not sure you’re in the right place and being seen by the right people. Slow it down a bit and take the time to get laser focused on what you want. That exercise alone will help steer you in the right direction.
Don’t get sucked in to throwing spaghetti at the wall
Another thing that will have you railroaded like a banana skin is the pressure to put out content daily… Stop!
Posting daily isn’t the holy grail and focusing purely on that achievement is really going to cloud your goal focus.
You need to first be seeing a return on your content efforts. And I’ll tell you now, posting purposeful content less often, overpowers daily filler posts hands down!
What do you want people to do?
The final ‘trip up’ is not adding a call to action to your content. Always think, what was the purpose of this post, podcast, video, newsletter and where is the logical next step for the person reading/watching/listening to it. Because if you want them to be taking action, such as visit a web page, DM you, share etc then make sure that is super clear.
What is a call to action?
Well prime example is for me to say, if you want to learn more about how to master the art of content for your business, check out The Content Academy.
